Fathom Review 2026: Free AI Meeting Notes, Real Limits

Fathom gives you unlimited free meeting recordings and fast summaries. We look at pricing, features and where accuracy questions remain.

Fathom records free without limits; the accuracy evidence stays thin. The public evidence on accuracy doesn't settle the question.

Introduction

Fathom is an AI meeting recorder. It joins or captures your calls and returns a transcript, a summary and a list of action items. Most tools in this category give you a few free hours a month and then ask for a card. Fathom's free plan lists unlimited recordings and transcriptions, and you can sign up without talking to sales.

scored.tools rates Fathom 7.8/10. Price and ease of setup pull the score up. Questions about output quality pull it down. This review covers what the product does, what each plan costs according to Fathom's pricing page as of October 2026, and where the evidence is thin.

Key Features

Transcripts, summaries and search

Every plan, including Free, records and transcribes calls and produces an AI summary as soon as the meeting ends. Transcripts are searchable. The pricing page also lists clips and playlists on the free tier, so you can cut a highlight from a customer call and share it without exporting video. Fathom's pricing page does not say which languages are supported. If your team doesn't run its meetings in English, ask about that before you roll it out.

AI action items and Ask Fathom

Fathom pulls action items out of the conversation. On the Free plan the pricing page marks action items and some Ask Fathom functions as limited use, without giving a number. Premium and above get them fully. Ask Fathom is the conversational assistant: you ask questions about a meeting and it answers from the transcript. The account-wide version, which searches across all your calls, is labelled beta.

Bot or bot-free capture

You can let a Fathom bot join the call, or use bot-free capture, which records from your machine so no extra participant shows up. Per the pricing page, bot-free is in beta and is a Mac feature. If your team is on Windows, or your clients don't want a bot in the room, check that this mode works for your setup before you depend on it.

API, MCP and integrations

Fathom has a public API and an MCP server, so you can pipe meeting data into your own tools or query it from an AI client. Native integrations cover Asana, HubSpot, Salesforce, ChatGPT, Claude and Zapier. For a builder this is the most useful part of the product. Your meeting notes can feed a CRM, a task tracker or an agent workflow without you writing a scraper. We score API and integration at 8/10.

Team and sales features

The Team plan adds global search across calls, shared highlight playlists, comments, folders and keyword alerts. Business adds CRM field sync, Deal View, coaching metrics with AI scorecards and custom summaries. Business is aimed at sales teams that want call data written into Salesforce or HubSpot fields automatically.

Pricing Breakdown

These figures come from Fathom's pricing page as of October 2026. Annual billing saves 25% or more, and paid plans carry a 90-day guarantee.

PlanAnnual (per user/month)Monthly (per user/month)MinimumMain additions
Free$0$0NoneUnlimited recordings and transcripts, instant summaries, clips, search, bot or bot-free capture
Premium$16$20None listedAdvanced summaries, full AI action items, Ask Fathom, custom meeting bot
Team$15$192 usersGlobal search, team playlists, comments, folders, keyword alerts
Business$25$342 usersCRM field sync, Deal View, coaching metrics, AI scorecards, custom summaries
EnterpriseContact salesContact salesNot listedSSO and SCIM, custom data retention, dedicated success manager, priority SLAs

A few things stand out. Team is cheaper per seat than Premium on annual billing ($15 against $16), so two people who would each buy Premium save money by going Team together. The two-user minimum on Team and Business means a solo founder pays at least $30 a month annually for Team. CRM field sync is only in Business, so a small sales team that needs it pays $50 a month or more. The pricing page also shows a Max 3 users/domain note on some items without saying clearly which ones. Ask sales about it if several people at your company plan to use the free plan.

We score pricing value at 9/10. Unlimited free recording is still unusual in this category.

About the accuracy evidence

Our scoring data cites a test that gave Fathom 60/100 on transcription and 68 on summaries, below a rival. The source is a review published by tl;dv, which makes a competing product. As of October 2026 that page reports no numeric scores. It describes several months of use on Google Meet and Zoom, calls the transcripts accurate with clear speaker labels, and calls the summaries stiff and formal. It also says one summary mixed up separate tasks. It quotes a G2 user who reported timestamps as extremely inaccurate on long calls. Read all of it as one vendor's view of a competitor. That leaves the 5.0 average on Capterra as the strongest positive signal and Fathom's own claims as the rest. Output quality scores 7/10, and problem fit scores 6/10 because there is no neutral benchmark of the core job.

Who Is It For

Fathom fits freelancers, consultants and founders who take a lot of calls and want searchable notes for free. The free tier is enough to find out if the summaries suit your meetings before you pay anything. Small teams of two to ten people get good value from Team at $15 a seat, especially if they live in Asana or Zapier. Builders who want meeting data in their own tools or in an AI client get the API and MCP, which many rivals keep behind higher tiers or don't offer.

It fits less well for sales orgs that mainly need CRM field sync. They can do it, but only on Business, where the price is closer to dedicated revenue-intelligence tools. Windows users who need bot-free recording should wait until it leaves beta. Teams in regulated settings, or anyone transcribing sensitive calls (the tl;dv review describes a bot joining a therapy session uninvited), should look hard at the bot auto-join settings and at Enterprise retention controls.

If transcription accuracy is your top requirement, run your own recordings through Fathom's free plan and through Otter.ai or MimicScribe side by side. You can compare the transcripts yourself.

Verdict

Fathom scores 7.8/10 on our rubric: ease of use 9, pricing value 9, API and integration 8, output quality 7, problem fit 6. For individuals and small teams it is the easiest recommendation in AI meeting notes right now. The free plan has no recording cap, setup needs no sales call, and the API and MCP mean your notes don't get stuck in one app.

Our recommendation: start on Fathom Free. If two or more of you rely on it, move to Team on annual billing. Only pay for Business if you need CRM field sync written automatically. If one wrong name or a missed number in a transcript would cause you real trouble, test it against a rival on your own calls before you commit. The public evidence on accuracy doesn't settle the question.
